Users can open up their Progressive app and select the “No Texting & Driving” square to earn points for safe driving.
Users input their destination, and the number of miles traveled translates into potential points earned. Users can also opt-in to allow Progressive to post to their Facebook. Those that opt-in to the posts earn double the points. At this time, users can also set their music and integrate with a navigation app.
After adjusting their settings, the user’s phone will go into “driving mode,” and will monitor every time they use their phone, and how fast they are traveling. Those that opted-in to Facebook wall posts will have a “Do Not Disturb” post updated to their wall.
Users that make it to their destination without picking up their phone earn their Progressive points, as well as a reward specific to their location, if possible.
For instance, those traveling to Dunkin Donuts may be rewarded with a free small coffee. They may also create their own check-in post on Facebook at this time, if they wish.
However, those that opted in to the Facebook posts and used their phone during their drive will not have a chance to create their own post. Progressive will post to their wall for them, shaming them for using their phone while driving. If the user did not opt-in to the Facebook posts, Progressive will give them a summary of their drive, letting them know that texting while driving is unacceptable. They will also forfeit any of the points they would have earned had they not used their phone while driving.
